China's recent economic measures against the United States, including controls on drone exports and a ban on dealings with six American entities, have sparked tensions between the world's two biggest economies. This comes ahead of an expected visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the U.S. in September, despite signs of warming ties during his meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing in May. The Commerce Ministry's statement emphasizes that these sanctions are in response to recent U.S. moves, such as the ban on Chinese drone imports and the addition of Chinese companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act entity list. China argues that these measures violate the consensus reached by the two heads of state and severely damage China's legitimate rights and interests. Beijing is requiring case-by-case reviews of exports of unmanned aerial vehicles, their key components, and related technologies that can serve both civilian and military purposes. Six U.S. entities, including Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. and the non-governmental group Human Rights in China, were banned from engaging in trade or other activities with entities in China. China also banned a company called Compliance Testing LLC from engaging in business in China due to its collaboration with the FCC in actions perceived as harmful to China's sovereignty and security. The State Administration for Market Regulation announced that U.S. companies conducting factory inspections for CCC certification can no longer provide these certifications, obliging U.S. electronics makers to hire non-U.S. auditors or rely on non-U.S. designated bodies. These measures reflect China's growing assertiveness in economic diplomacy and its determination to protect its interests in the face of perceived U.S. aggression. The ongoing trade tensions between the two economic powerhouses underscore the complex and often contentious nature of international relations in the 21st century.
